Bergse Diepsluis – Diving in Tholen
Bergse Diepsluis in Tholen is a popular dive site known for its abundant aquatic life and easy access. It is appreciated by beginners and experienced divers alike for its diverse flora and fauna and the opportunity to see unusual species such as cuttlefish and seahorses.
Access & Parking
The site has two entry points: Oesterdam and Hangculturen. Ample parking is available, and portable toilets are provided during the season. The clearly marked entry points are easy to reach from the car park.
What can you expect underwater?
The underwater environment at Bergse Diepsluis is known for its abundance and variety. The bottom is covered with beautiful plumose anemones and colourful sponges, creating an impressive and photogenic landscape.
A wide range of species can be encountered here, including bib, flatfish, sculpins and, in the right season, lumpsuckers. Crabs, lobsters, starfish and various nudibranchs are also abundant.
At a depth of around 9 metres lies a large, heavily overgrown training platform that is ideal for training and exercises. Each year, small ‘tents’ made of sticks are also placed underwater, where cuttlefish and squid deposit their eggs. With a little luck, you may even encounter seahorses.

Bergse Diepsluis is known for good diving conditions, including clear water and reasonable visibility. Although there is no strong current, it is always important to check local conditions and follow the diving rules.
Make sure you have the appropriate equipment and certification, and be alert to boat traffic near the dive site.
